Mineral Interests News

The initial 2023 value notices for mineral interests have hit the mail. Not all accounts will receive a notice, which usually means the value did not increase or did not increase a significant amount from the prior year. (Please see Section 25.19 of the Texas Property Tax Code for details)

All values can be found on the Property Search page. If you have questions about how your mineral value was determined, you can reach Pritchard & Abbott – the appraisal firm that handles mineral valuations for TAD – at (817) 926-7861 or [email protected].

Click here for Pritchard & Abbott’s website. The valuation methodology directed by the Texas Property Tax Code can be found in Sections 23.17 and 23.175 of that code.

The mineral appraisers are not on-site at TAD’s office so if you have questions about the valuation, please call the number on your notice or send an email to the email address above. If you have questions about updating ownership, please contact the drilling operator for your lease.

If you have already contacted the operator and have questions on ownership updates after you have done so, please email your questions to [email protected].

Please note that both Pritchard & Abbott and TAD is receiving several calls and emails at this time. We will get back with you as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience.

Common reasons for a mineral account to have a $0 value are:

  • your ownership interest in the well is very small.
  • The well has very low production.
  • The well is shut-in (not producing), and/or
  • The well is new and has not yet begun production.

Please go to the Tarrant County Tax Office account search page to verify whether or not the Tarrant County Tax Assessor-Collector has received your payment.

Some accounts in Tarrant County may also have tax payment requirements to the Grapevine-Colleyville Tax Office

The first step is to contact the gas well operator to make sure they are aware of the sale.

TAD, and the appraisal firm that values the mineral interests for TAD, get the ownership information from the operators.

If you have further questions about this, please email us at [email protected].

Please contact the operator to update the mailing address as well as contacting the Tarrant Appraisal District mineral department at [email protected].

See question above: How Do I Contact The Gas Well Operator Related To My Mineral Account?

Multiple wells cross city / school district / county boundaries and a percentage of the interest will be divided where the line crosses.

See example below:

Each account represents a well that produces a different amount of volume.

You can visit the railroad commission website and enter the lease ID number shown in your mineral value notice

RRC Public GIS Viewer (texas.gov)

  • Open the link above, click on the magnifying glass icon then select "Lease Id"

  • Enter your Lease ID in the Lease Search Window then click the "Search" button.
The Well Number displays on the fourth column.
